1. Overview

Unicorn Screener ("we", "us", "our") operates unicornscreener.vc. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your personal information.

2. Data We Collect

2.1 Data you provide

  • Email address: When you request a report, we collect your email to deliver the PDF.
  • Startup name / website: The startup you submit for analysis. This is sent to our search and AI providers (Serper, Jina, Google Gemini, Tavily) to produce the report.
  • Contact form submissions: Name, email, and message content when you contact us.
  • Payment information: Processed by Lemon Squeezy (our Merchant of Record). We never see or store your credit card details.

2.2 Data collected automatically

  • IP address: Used for rate limiting and abuse prevention. Not stored permanently.
  • Browser fingerprint: A privacy-preserving hash used solely for rate limiting (one free report per user). We use FingerprintJS.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile token: Used for bot protection. Not stored.

2.3 Data we do NOT collect

  • We do not use cookies for tracking or advertising.
  • We do not use Google Analytics or any third-party analytics trackers.
  • We do not sell or share your data with advertisers.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • Email: To deliver PDF reports and, if you opt in, occasional product updates.
  • IP + Fingerprint: Rate limiting only (1 free report per user, abuse prevention on paid checkouts).
  • Startup name / website: Used as input to our research pipeline (Serper Google search, Jina Reader content extraction, Google Gemini 2.5 Flash synthesis, with Tavily as a fallback). Public web data only — we do not query private databases.
  • Payment data: Handled entirely by Lemon Squeezy. We receive transaction confirmation and order metadata only.

4. Data Storage and Retention

  • Rate limit keys: Stored in Redis (Upstash). IP and fingerprint keys have no expiry for free report claims. Hourly analysis rate limits expire after 1 hour.
  • Cached analyses: Generated reports are cached in Redis with a 24-hour TTL so paying customers can receive their PDF immediately after checkout. Deleted automatically after 24 hours.
  • Payment records: Stored in Redis with a 30-day TTL for order reconciliation and idempotency.
  • Newsletter emails: Stored until you unsubscribe.
  • PDF reports: Delivered by email via Resend. We do not maintain a long-term archive of generated reports.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Lemon Squeezy: Payment processing (Merchant of Record). Subject to Lemon Squeezy's Privacy Policy.
  • Serper: Google SERP search API used to find public information about the startup you submit. Subject to Serper's Privacy Policy.
  • Jina AI (Reader): Public webpage content extraction. Subject to Jina's Terms.
  • Google Gemini (Generative AI API): LLM synthesis of the collected public data into a structured report. Subject to Google's Generative AI Terms. Inputs sent to Gemini via the paid API are not used to train Google's models.
  • Tavily: Fallback search and research API used when the primary pipeline fails. Subject to Tavily's Privacy Policy.
  • Resend: Email delivery for PDF reports and contact form messages.
  • Upstash Redis: Rate limiting, payment records, and short-term analysis caching.
  • Vercel: Hosting platform.
  • Cloudflare: Bot protection via Turnstile.
  • FingerprintJS: Privacy-preserving browser fingerprinting for rate limiting.

We only send the startup name and website you submit to our search and AI providers. We never send your email address, IP, or any other personally identifying information to Serper, Jina, Gemini, or Tavily.

6. Your Rights

Under GDPR and applicable data protection laws, you have the right to:

  • Request access to your personal data.
  • Request deletion of your personal data.
  • Withdraw consent for newsletter emails at any time.
  • Request data portability.

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), webhook signature verification, and secure environment variable management.

8. Children

The Service is not intended for users under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
